Counselling Services
After-Hours Crisis Services |
|
Given that Counselling Services cannot be immediately available 24 hours per day, Counselling Services has formed a partnership with Victim Services of Waterloo Region to supplement the immediate response crisis intervention services available to Laurier students and staff.
In the event of a crisis during working hours, the Director of Counselling Services or designate is to be notified (519-884-0710 x2338) for consultation and coordination of support services for students affected. These services may include individual or group debriefing of friends/roommates, assessment of suicide risk of others involved/affected, consultation with staff/student leaders involved in student support, or death notification to classes (in the event of the death of a faculty member). In the unusual event that Counselling Services is not available to respond in a timely manner, additional support services will be arranged from Counselling Services.
In the event of a crisis when Counselling Services is not available (after hours and weekends), Counselling Services has formed a partnership with Victim Services of Waterloo Region. They may be contacted to provide immediate support and crisis debriefing (519-570-5143). These services may include but are not limited to attending the scene of a crisis or the Community Safety and Security Quiet Room, offering emotional and practical support to friends/roommates/family, assisting in contacting additional supports/services, and coordination follow up support via Counselling Services (with student’s permission). It is important to note that Victim Services is available for the immediate crisis response only, after which time support will be offered via Laurier support services.
